Mr. Michael Tillman, Certified Safety & Health Official, brings
30 years of for-profit success to the Suicide Aftercare Association. After successfully starting and growing three businesses, including an internationally recognized bio-recovery and training company, Mr. Tillman has retired from the for-profit sector to dedicate his talents and passion for helping others to the Suicide Aftercare Association.
Mr. Tillman holds numerous certifications, and has been featured nationally and internationally as an expert and leader in the safety and health industries. He has been interviewed by radio and television affiliates with CBS, NBC, ABC, Telemundo, and RLT Germany. He has been cited as an expert in the bio-recovery industry for major publications, including the Dallas Morning News, ICS Cleaning Specialist trade journal, Cleaning and Restoration Trade Journal, HowStuffWorks.com, KansasCity.com, Dallas Observer, NorthJersey.com, Maryland Daily Record, the Oxford Press, Tampa Business News, The Fugitive Post, The Mercury, Ashland City Times, Interviu Magazine (Spain), and Brutus Magazine (Japan).
Mr. Tillman’s expertise includes board and volunteer training, strategic planning, capital management, and entrepreneurial success.
Showing his commitment to helping others, Mr. Tillman spent five years inventing and developing a toilet compatible for use by wheel-chair bound persons. He is a certified animal cruelty investigator and has worked with animal advocates in several states to prevent animal cruelty and to maintain healthy feral cat populations through TNR programs.


Suicide Survivor
Ms. Kay Purvis serves as the Director of Project Development for the Suicide Aftercare Association. She has spent the last 10 years working in various editing, writing, and project development capacities for both for-profit and nonprofit companies.
In addition to her duties as Director of Project Development, she serves as grant writer and community liaison.
Ms. Purvis graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.


Finance Director and Board Member
Mr. Brian Lawson serves as the Finance Director of Suicide Aftercare Association. He has spent the past 15 years in various aspects of the Telecommunications industry, spanning Venture Capital Funding, M&A activities, and Management Consulting. Mr. Lawson has specialized in Business Process Redesign and Organizational Efficiencies, and has worked with several Fortune 100 companies.
He is currently the Director of Business Operations with Comcast Corporation in Philadelphia.
He is a graduate of Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics.
Mr. Lawson currently resides in Philadelphia with his wife Jennifer.


Board Member
Mr. Brian Sims is the Staff Counsel for Policy and Planning at The Philadelphia Bar Association. He works with the Chancellor, Executive Director and Board of Governors to pursue and implement the legislative and policy agenda of the Association. He attends Legislative Liaison Committee meetings, assists in preparing testimony for public hearings, and works with the Association’s Sections and Committees on legislation pending at the local, state and federal levels.
Before joining the Bar Association, Mr. Sims practiced Disability Insurance Law in Philadelphia, where he represented disabled physicians and attorneys, first at a national, boutique practice, and then at his own law firm. In addition to his practice, Mr. Sims served as the Legal Editor of M.D. News Magazine in Philadelphia and served as an Associate Editor of The Philadelphia Bar Reporter.
Mr. Sims is a graduate of the Michigan State University College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University.
